“And of some have compassion, making a difference:” Jude 1:22

Did you know that the current fifty-star American flag was designed by a 17-year-old high The new flag's design began as a history project for Robert G. Heft, who was a 17-year-old high school student in Lancaster, Ohio, in 1958.

It had been about 47 years since the 48th star representing Arizona had been added to the flag. And now there was a flurry of discussion about possibly two more states being added to the United States of America. Heft was paying attention to the discussions and felt confident that two states would soon be added. Using his mother’s sewing machine, he spent 12 hours with his hand cut stars arranging them on an old flag to be presented as a history project. His teacher gave him a B- with the promise that if his flag was accepted by Congress, he would change the grade to an A.

In just a few months Alaska was added and so a new flag with 49 stars was raised on July 4, 1959. The very next month on August 21 Hawaii joined the union. That same month a very shocked young man received a personal phone call from President Eisenhower who had selected Heft’s flag out of 1,500 designs.

Robert got his A, and America had a new flag. Great things have been done by young people throughout history. You also can make a difference. Do not let a bad grade or a difficult situation discourage you from trying to do something significant.

God has called you to make a difference. Your age or physical condition is not a limitation. It is an opportunity. Let God use you!
