When God shuts the door, on which side will you be?

Writer's picture: Dr. Dan HaifleyDr. Dan Haifley

"When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:" Luke 13: 25

We have enjoyed an open door to the Lord from many years. He said in Revelation, "I set before you an open door, and no man can shut it." God in His gracious mercy has allowed the church to be carnal and self centered for many years. Christians have spent their time and energy pursuing their own satisfaction. Preachers who have cried out for revival have largely been ignored. Instead, we have collectively sought the most comfortable, the most exciting, the most entertaining churches. We have sought the applause of the world. We have looked for chief seats in the community....And our Lord has stood outside the door knocking, asking to be part of our lives.

The eating and drinking, the endless teaching sessions about how to be successful in life will one day come to an end. There will come a day, which God alone knows, when the door will be shut on God's mercy. When that day comes on which side of the door will you be?

The Lord is crying out to us right now. He is pleading with us to seek His face and change our ways. He is instructing us to humble ourselves right now "while it is called To day" (Hebrews 3:13). Will you hear Him?
