What are we going to do?

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2

If you are like me, you might have been a little distracted over the past few months. Some of us believe that our President was really good for our nation. We understood that when we elected him, he would be a disrupt-er, and we were OK with that. Some of us are very disappointed with the rule changes on the mail in ballots in some states and the openness to illegal aliens voting (no, that is not a conspiracy theory-everyone knows it happened). Recently the events in our capitol caused some of us a little concern, partly because we are getting blamed for activity that greatly resembled some of the terrorist activity on the North West Coast. To be sure some of the mob was goaded on by activists (both right and left), but most of the demonstrators were just patriots protesting what they thought was unfair. As I have pondered all of this, it occurred to me that the American process has worked. Half of America did not want the President we had and so they stopped him from doing things which they felt were detrimental to their agenda. Half of America is upset with some of the radical left agenda, so we will get our chance to stop them from taking "In God We Trust" out of our documents. The radicals on both sides are pushing for changes that will break us apart. During the Civil War some were successful in causing many lives to be sacrificed and many homes to be devastated. My hope is that we will learn from history, and that more sane heads will prevail this time around. We don't need guerilla warfare in our country. We don't want to return to the Wild West. Let's let the process work.

Meanwhile, Christians, we need to get back to the business we are good at. If the radicals that wish to push us into the ocean really understood the wonderful good news of the Gospel, would they be so quick to demonize us? I know....they crucified Jesus. However, Paul said that if we pray for our leaders, God would give us a quiet and peaceable life. The scriptures say, "When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." This is a promise I would like to enjoy. What would happen, if all of us would stop being disrespectful to our government leaders, and start fasting and praying for them? What if we prayed to be given an opportunity to stand before "Caesar" (like the Apostle Paul) so that we can share with him the wonderful news of Christ? What if some of these rulers would understand the free gift of Christ and fall in love with His way?

What if....we stopped being so frantic about hanging on to this world, and actually renewed our minds? You know...what that verse in Romans 12 says. Do you know what it means to renew your mind? To renew means to reset or get back to what it was before it got interrupted. Wow! I am convicted.
