"And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines." II Samuel 5:24
Most of us are familiar with the story of David and Goliath. When David was just a young man the Philistines came up against Israel and put the champion fighter up on display. Goliath was a giant who blasphemed the God of Israel and David took exception to that. He decided to take down the giant with his slingshot because....well, he was sure that God would back him and that is exactly what happened.
Now over a decade later he comes against the same army, and his first response was to ask the Lord whether or not he should go up against them. In the first battle the Lord told him to go ahead, which David did and subsequently had a great victory. The second time the Philistines came up against David, he asked the Lord if he should fight them, and the Lord told him no. This verse is the follow up. For some reason, which the Lord only knows, He told David to wait until he heard a sound in the tops of the mulberry trees, then and only then, he was to go down against the Philistines and they would be defeated.
I have found it to be true in my life, that sometimes the battles and opportunities which seem to be right in front of me are not always what God wants me to do at that time. Sometimes, for His reasons, He says wait. Oh, the victory will come....but on God's time table, not mine. And I am ok with that.
