“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall
teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto
you”. John 14:26
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not
speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things
to come.” John 16:13
Sometimes it feels like Christians are waiting for a voice from heaven when they are asking
something of God, but I've never had God speak to me with an audible voice. It's with a
scripture verse that the Holy Spirit answers. Sometimes our answer from God is not written in
the sky. It may just be the Holy Spirit bringing to remembrance a verse you've heard or seen at
some point.
So, if the Holy Spirit only teaches you what He hears, then don't you think it would
be important to fill your mind with as much scripture as possible? If reading is not your thing,
then you can listen to an audio Bible. You have to give the Holy Spirit the tools to speak to you.
There have been moments in my life when talking to both believers and non-believers, that the
Holy Spirit has reminded me of a verse that I did not memorize, but have heard. I was able to
quote that verse to help them. I find this as evidence that the Holy Spirit will call into
remembrance what He has heard as it is needed.
Be cautious of anyone who tells you God told them to do something. Make sure that you compare their claims with scripture. 2 Peter 1:19 states “We have also a more sure word of prophecy”. That “more sure word of prophecy” is the scriptures. With more scripture in your mind, you will be able to identify when God is speaking to you. by Zachary Haifley
