"When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart..." Matthew 13:19
The Word of God is not always easy to understand. Some times it takes a good bit of study and a whole lot of determination to get at the meaning being expressed. There is a lot of scripture that seems to be simple and straightforward and even a child can understand it. However, some is considered to be "strong meat" and takes your "senses exercised" (Hebrews 5) to really grasp it.
People notice this difficulty and go in search for an easier presentation or a simpler translation, but the hard truth is not everything can be simplified. Some things in the scripture can only be understood as they were intended by Holy Spirit explanation.
The natural consequence of this fact is that someone who only has a passing interest in God will often miss the meaning of a scripture text. Jesus makes the point in the verse above that when this happens the Devil seizes the opportunity to remove the truth from his/her memory so that there is no danger of him ever learning what it is that God wanted him to learn.
My challenge to you in the light of this fact is to never walk away from something you don't understand in the scripture. Instead ask God to help you understand it and don't stop trying until He finally gives you the answer you seek. Your understanding of the truth that seems to be hidden may have eternal benefits. Don't give up.
