"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:27-28
Equality is a topic that seems to be in our social conversation these days. Folks are clamoring for fairness and balance. This is not a new concept. In fact, it has been front and center in the conversation within the Church since the days of Pentecost. There in Acts 2 the Lord blended the languages together in such a way that everyone could understand in their mother tongue. He didn't eliminate the differences in the languages, rather, He embraced them, included them, and raised their value.
The missionary apostle Paul in Athens made a great statement to the Athenians (Acts 16:24-26), "God that made the world and all things therein...…..hath made of one blood all nations of men...." He would often say, as he did in Galatians 3, "There is neither Jew nor Greek." This was a common topic in the early church because the Lord was giving everyone the gift of the Gospel and no one was to be excluded. The idea of giving the Gospel to everyone was easily understood by the early church, but that wasn't the only part of the message. The rest of the message was that God was making us one nation again under His leadership. "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people:...Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God:.." I Peter 2:9-10. In Ephesians 2:14 Paul says, "For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us: Having abolished in his flesh the enmity..."
The goal of the Christian message is to give everyone equal opportunity, equal position, equal value. As a Christian we should not be involved in any discussion that would put a divide between the different races of people. I know, some people are unbalanced, some are even a little crazy, and the insanity drives you crazy. However, in Christ we are all the same. Embrace the diversity. Embrace the unity.
