“… And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?” Jeremiah 7:10
Matthew records an incident were Jesus came into the temple with a whip and turned over the tables of money changers and scourged them with the whip. At this point Jesus quotes out of Isaiah about His house being a house of prayer. Then He quotes out of Jeremiah, stating that they had turned His house into a den of thieves.
The verse here is right before the one Jesus is recorded as quoting. It reminds us that Grace and Mercy are wonderful gifts but should not be used and abused. In the book of Jude there is a verse that states that certain men have "crept in unawares" and have turned "the grace of our God into lasciviousness." That big word "lasciviousness" means simply, "no boundaries." These teachers are teaching the church that God's grace is about doing anything we want to do and still be "forgiven." The Bible is clear that these people are false teachers.
God did not deliver us so that we could sin. He wants us to stand before Him clean, and yes, He is the only one that can make us clean. However, He wants to make us so. His purpose is to deliver us to do righteousness. Not just forgive all of the stupid things you do.
