“They profess that they know God but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient and unto every good work reprobate.” Titus 1:16
Salvation is described in Romans 10:9 as professing with the mouth the Lord Jesus and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. Professing the Lord is a very important part of the Christian experience. However, by the time the letter to Titus was written the church had become full of people who professed that they knew the Lord but they didn’t follow anything He taught.
Preachers of every generation are quick to point out the slippery slope on which their generation is on. Indeed, men do get worse and worse. It’s instructive to note that the problem of our generation which takes us down this slippery slope is the same problem that faced the early church. They talked about God. They said they were God's people, but they did not act like it. Can you believe it is the exact same thing that Israelite's dealt with in the wilderness? (Hebrews 4:2)
Be careful when you praise the Lord that your life is actually mirroring what you are saying. Do you obey the One you claim to love?
