“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Psalm 119:18
The entire 119th Psalm is about the Law of God and It’s beauty and benefit. In this verse David specifically recognizes that he is spiritually blind to the depths of truth in the Law of God. He begs God to open his eyes to all of the wonderful things in His Word.
A student of the Word of God quickly finds himself completely amazed by the unending flow of discovery when he seeks for the opening of his eyes. Much like Elisha’s servant, who got a glimpse of the angelic beings protecting him, we are completely oblivious to the amazing truths in the scripture.
This is probably why God tells the Church of Laodicea (Revelation 3) that they should request eye salve from Him so that they could see. He wants them to see the truth. The things they have allowed into their lives has literally blinded them from seeing all that God has for them.
If the scriptures seem lifeless to you, seek the opening of your eyes. The only Bible that David had was a portion of the Old Testament. What more there must be in the whole portions that we have!
