Prisoners of Hope

“Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;” Zechariah 9:12

Hope is the key ingredient of a good attitude. Hope is the key ingredient of a peaceful nature. Hope is the central motivator of a Christian life.

In the book of Romans Paul remind us in chapter 8 that the sufferings of this present life are not to be compared with the glory that is promised us. He goes on to say that we have “earnest expectations” that help us to wait through the trials of this life. He says that we groan within ourselves because we have not yet received the redemption of our bodies even though our souls have been redeemed. Yet, he says, we are saved by hope.

How are we saved by hope? Well, it may not look like things are going the way they should right now. You may think that your world is completely falling apart. But God promised some specific things to those that love Him. He said that if we would delight ourselves in Him, He would give us the desires of our heart. He said that if we trusted Him, He would save us. He said that if we confess our sins, He would forgive us and cleanse us. That is what He said. Our only job is to cling to that promise and continue to place our faith and hope in Christ.

In the verse above Zechariah is prophesying of the time when our hope becomes a reality. When God comes to us and says to us, “…ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee.”

I am not what I want to be. I am not what I should be. But…I am a prisoner of hope.
