“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;” John 17:20
This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It is taken from the longest recorded prayer of Jesus. Often we read of times when He would go off by himself and pray. He gave the disciples a model to use for prayer. It is only in John 17 that we actually get to listen in to His conversation about us to the Father.
In this prayer He asks the Father to sanctify His disciples. He asks that they all may be made one with Him and the Father. He also asks that they would be allowed to join Him in the next life.
This verse includes us in this prayer. It makes us a recipient of all of the blessings of the prayer of Christ, and it reminds us that He was thinking way beyond that moment to this time and us who are still trying to follow Him.
