“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

There appears to be a trend in modern Christianity to downplay the effects of sin our lives. We seem to be putting a huge emphasis on the Grace and Mercy that God bestows on us but very little mention of His chastening.

The message given just before the birth of Christ was not that He was going to prepare a place for us. That came later. It wasn’t that we could be 100% sure that we would go to heaven when we die. The angel was very clear that Jesus was coming to save us from our sins.

Our sins are what continually break down our relationships, our character, our lives. Jesus came to save us from ourselves. His plan was not just to white wash the problem, covering it up and pretending it didn’t exist. No, He intended to eliminate the problem. Something to think about.
