A man in Australia pleaded guilty to talking on a hand held cell phone while riding a horse on a rural road in New South Wales. The Mudgee Local Court magistrate judge said “under the road rules a horse is a vehicle…and he didn’t have a hands-free device fitted to the horse.”
The offence seems ridiculous, but the law is clear. Sometimes man made laws are not fair because they can’t be tailored to each individual situation. A strict reading of them creates all kinds of difficulties.
The Laws of God, on the other hand, are made expressly for our good. Man tries to complicate them, and so the Lord constantly simplifies them for us. Notice what Moses told the children of Israel: “And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.” Deuteronomy 6:24
