Writer's picture: Dr. Dan HaifleyDr. Dan Haifley

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God..” Psalm 42:11

It is estimated that in the U.S. alone over 18.8 million adults suffer from some depressive disorder. A shocking statistic that 4% of U.S. pre-schoolers (over 1 million) have been diagnosed as clinically depressed. Medical professionals have suggested that by 2020 Depression will be second only to heart disease as the leading killer in America.

David struggled with depression and in Psalm 42 he describes the antidote for the believer: “Hope in God.” Hoping in people will cause depression because they will let you down. Place your hope in God, however, and you will find Him to be everything He promised.
