“Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand in the house of the LORD.” Psalm 134:1
In the temple there were keepers who stood watch all night long. Some of them involved themselves in the preparations for the next day. ie. Baking the bread, etc. This psalm is not only an ode to their service, but was used as a greeting within the temple. These keepers would call out to each other in their different responsibilities as there duties would intersect with each other. The greeting which was also a song served as a way they could encourage each other while the rest of the populace was completely unaware of the night chores and watch care over the sanctuary.
Do you have a night shift job? Do you care for others and feel like no one has any idea what you do? This psalm illustrates the importance of those who watch over the night. It highlights the fact that your job is important, and you are a servant of the Lord. It's also important to note that God sees everything that you do. As the song says, "If it matters to you, it matters to the Master."
