“… In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit..” Ephesians 2:22
Paul tells us in I Corinthians that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost, and that He dwells within us. In Ephesians 1, he tells us that we are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. We can go directly to God in prayer by the Holy Spirit.
However, there is another truth in the Bible that has to do with our unity together as a body of believers. Jesus told us that He is in the midst of two or three that are gathered together in His name. This passage in Ephesians echoes what Jesus said, reminding us that when we are together we form an habitation of God. We, together, form the temple of God. There is something special about getting together and singing the praises of God and listening to the proclamation of His truth.—But it is more than special– it is the place that houses the Holy Spirit– the place where we meet with God.
