“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” I Corinthians 4:2
We don’t like requirements. We like freedom. Don’t demand things of us and we will be happy. Yet, if we need someone else to care for something that is ours, we expect them to take it seriously and care for it as if it was their own. My wife and I spent a week away from our home and we left the care of our outside plants in someone else’s hands. Imagine our pleasure when we arrived back home to not only find those flowers still alive, but flourishing in better condition than when we left. Someone took care of something very insignificant and so were faithful in a little area. God says, when you are faithful in a little, he will give you more.
This is true in the area of your time, your finances, your family, your ministry, etc. When He entrusts us with the Gospel, He expects us to take care of it and to make it flourish. When He returns to claim that which is His own, He will know whether or not we have been faithful.
